Beyond Beads: Mathematicians in Action is a focused 6-week Abacus training program designed for children aged 6 years and above who already know counting up to 100. Offered by Bright Kids Virtual Primary School’s After-School Club Program, this course strengthens mental math skills and develops speed and accuracy without relying on paper or calculators.
Through hands-on activities, students will master calculations using the Abacus, learning to add and subtract confidently by manipulating beads with their index finger and thumb. The course includes mental calculation exercises that train students to solve mathematical questions in their mind with increasing speed.
Flash cards are integrated to enhance memory and concentration, while direct addition and subtraction drills build fluency and confidence. Students also work on fine motor skills and cognitive development as they practice bead manipulation techniques.
