Course Title:
Geek Squad: Scratch Coding Explorers Level 1
Offered by: Bright Kids Virtual Primary School – After-School Club Program
Course Overview:
Geek Squad: Scratch Coding Explorers Level 1 is an engaging 6-week coding course designed for kids aged 7 years and above. Offered by Bright Kids Virtual Primary School’s After-School Club Program, this course introduces young learners to the fundamentals of programming through simple, practical, and creative projects.
The journey begins with an introduction to coding and programming, helping students understand the difference between human and computer languages and whether computers are really “smart.” Learners will practice false-coding, develop problem-solving skills using flowcharts, and discover how modularization helps break big coding problems into smaller, manageable parts.
Students will dive into hands-on coding using Code.org’s IDE, exploring key concepts step by step. They’ll learn about sprites, scenes, actions, brushes, loops, logic, variables, and comments — all while creating exciting projects that keep them engaged and motivated.
Projects include building an instruction-based animation, escaping a maze, designing a two-player ping pong battle, coding art in Minecraft style, and decoding and creating their own Flappy Bird game.
By the end of the course, students will gain strong foundational coding skills, logical thinking abilities, and the confidence to bring their ideas to life through code.
